Today we began a poetry unit.
I think poetry is used to express emotions about someone or something.
I don’t like poetry all that much.
We read Love That Dog by Sharon Creech.
Pause #1: The boy is wrong to say that poetry is for girls. It is for whomever who desires it.
Pause #2: Aren’t poems supposed to show emotions, not about some kid who doesn’t like poems?
Pause#3: The boy is drawing pointless conclusions about poems. Also he is judging author’s ideas.
Pause #4: These are supposed to be poems? Sounds like a story about this kid.
Pause #5: Now the boy’s poems sound like letters. These don’t sound anything like poems.
Pause#6: This is an awesome “story”. He’s telling about his life, but not making poems.
END: He’s talking about poems, but these are supposed to be poems. I am kind of confused.
Jack got his inspiration from Walter Dean Meyers and his everyday life.
Here is my attempt to write a poem.
Love that brownie
Brownie, brownie, I love you
You’re so full of chocolate
No one knows my love for you
When I break your luscious skin
I melt away with warmth
Brownie, brownie, I love you
